National Council
on Economic Education
In 2001, The National Council on Economic Education in partnership with the
Bank of America Foundation published a series of personal finance text books, teachers' guides,
and parents' guides for use in grades K-12. The 10 book project needed to be
finished in a very short amount of time, so R/S Partners implemented a method of
collaboration that expedited production and increased communication among the
many individuals involved.

These are the final Grades K-2 and 3-5
Student workbooks. The K-2 cover features a hand embroidered logo on a
denim pocket which was then photographed for the cover. The 3-5
Student cover features a 3D composite of a girl walking up floating 3D money
steps. |
|
Shown here are the Grades 6-8 and 9-12
Student workbooks. The 6-8 cover was created by photographing two
teenagers doing sit-ups separately. It was then composited with dollar
bill style mats that were created digitally. |

Parent involvement is an
important element in the success of this curriculum. Parent Guides
were designed to coordinate with the student lessons. |
|
Teacher Guides were designed to
accompany each
Student workbook. Layouts were created such that lessons are easy to
coordinate with student books. |
|
A Sharepoint based extranet site was
used to increase efficiency while developing these books. Over a dozen
remote users were given access to this site which offered frequently updated
PDF versions of the books in their various stages, which could then be
downloaded and annotated by others. Users could also easily upload
files to our network, add comments to certain files, and read the latest
announcements regarding the project. |
|
The K-2 Storybook has many full
color illustrations that accompany the text, which is intended to be read
aloud by the teacher. |
|
Active page layouts and engaging
illustrations entice the student to get more involved with the text. |
