The Harold and Elaine Shames Jewish Community Center on the Hudson
Roher/Sprague, in collaboration with Debra Magid Design, developed a signage and wayfinding program for The Shames JCC on the Hudson. The Shames JCC had purchased an existing building adjacent to their current facility, and created a campus that included the adaptive reuse of the purchased property, and the construction of a new fitness center and pool complex. As a non-profit institution, the development was financed through donor contributions which needed to be recognized as part of the overall building signage. The signage design extended the Brand Identity that R/S had previously developed for the Shames JCC.
Donor Recognition
Donors to the project needed to be recognized at multiple levels of giving. In anticipation of the next phases of development, the system was designed to be adaptable to accommodate additional donors. Printed translucent panels create an elegant look while keeping fabrication costs within budget.
Naming opportunities for specific rooms were recognized with translucent panels over doorways, and with solid panels for areas within rooms.
Unique panels were designed recognizing Alan Cohen and his family in addition to multiple other donors to the Gymnasium project.
Interior Wayfinding
The wayfinding system creates a sense of friendly community using color and radius edges that echo the circles of the donor wall.
Environmental Graphics
Themed banners in the parking lot create excitement and emphasize the JCC's many core programs.
The J logo mark on the gymnasium floor is a friendly support of member loyalty.
A unique dedication plaque at the main entrance was designed to honor the outgoing Director.
Marketing & Promotion
A series of postcards mailed to targeted audiences helped build memberships even before the opening of the facility.
Printed Program Guides create excitement for the new community center and its offerings.
